HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's soccer team closed out their 2019 home slate with a 2-0 win Thursday over Holy Names at Saint Louis Field.
Asya Holt (Honolulu/Roosevelt) and
Kira Nishiki (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) each found the back of the net while senior
Kirstin Wong (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel) recorded two assists, just the second player in program history to record a multi-assist game.
The Silverswords also achieved a first; the program's first-ever win on Aloha Senior Day. Previously they had been close three times with ties in 2012 and 2017 and a loss in overtime to Hawai'i Pacific University in 2013.
Chaminade improved to 3-7-3 overall and 3-6-1 in the Pacific West Conference. Holy Names fell to 1-13-3 and 1-7-2.
Holt, who scored her first career goal in the 'Swords' last game against Academy of Art last Saturday, hit paydirt in her second straight contest during the 24th minute after touches by Wong and
Lindsey Wilson (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani).
Later in the 66th minute, Nishiki got her first career goal, firing a ball into the net on a free kick from Wong for insurance.
Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City) kept the Hawks out of the net, recording her fourth clean sheet of the season, setting a new Chaminade single-season record.
Wong's pair of assists tied her with teammate
Cailla Fabro (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Idaho State/Pearl City HS) who had the 'Swords' only other multi-assist contest which was in September 2017, also against Holy Names.
Randi Fontes (Wahiawa, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i-Manoa/Pearl City HS) attempted a team-high five shots for the 'Swords.
Wong, Fabro,
Rachel Arakawa (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kaiser),
Kasila Carey (Anchorage, Alaska/Bartlett),
Ashley Souza (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Baldwin),
Cierra Toledo-Muragin (Hilo, Hawai'i/Waiakea) and
Jordan Taboniar (Anahola, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) were all honored following the game.
The Silverswords close the regular season Saturday at Hawai'i Hilo at the UH Hilo Baseball Stadium. The winner will take home the second-place points in the women's soccer division of the PacWest Hawai'i Challenge.
