Men’s Soccer Sets Wins Record vs. ART U

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team returned home and got back on the winning track Saturday with a 3-1 win over Academy of Art at Saint Louis Field.

Reece Hambly (Birmingham, England/Scottsdale CC/Hagley HS) accounted for all three goals by scoring twice and assisting on another to not only help the Silverswords (7-6) snap a three-match slide but to make history on the side.

The 'Swords won their record seventh match this season, breaking the previous record of six set twice in 2014 and again in 2018. They are also 5-4 in the Pacific West Conference.

The Urban Knights (1-13-1, 0-8-1 PacWest), whose style of play is similar to fast-break basketball, caused some problems for the 'Swords early on. But they eventually settled down and at the 26th minute, a flurry of CUH shots led to the game's first goal.

Quinton Brown's (El Paso, Texas/Franklin) shot was deflected by an ART U player but the carom came to Hambly in the front of the goal. Hambly promptly put the left-footed shot over goalkeeper Davis King to put Chaminade in front.

Edward Edvardsson would knot the score at 1 on a penalty kick just before the half but in the 66th minute, Tasman Turner (Kailua, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Iolani) came through with the eventual game-winner. Off Hambly's corner kick, the 6-foot-1 defender stuck a header which found the net and a 2-1 Silverswords' lead.

Chaminade got an insurance goal in the 87th minute when Tyler Ebisuya (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Iolani) got loose down the left sideline on a breakaway. With a defender closing behind him, Ebisuya got a perfect cross to Hambly who made a one-time punch into the net.

Hambly's five points is the second-most in program history, only behind Lukas Pousset's seven-point game (three goals, one assist) in October 2015.

Michael Stafford (Honolulu/Iowa Western CC/Kalani HS) faced eight shots and made two saves in picking up his seventh win, also a single-season record.

Chaminade's attack peppered the Urban Knights to the tune of 17 shots, 10 on-goal with King making seven stops. Hambly and Colin Roemer (Cologne, Germany/Barton CC/Wirtschaftgymnasium Westerburg) each attempted four shots on the afternoon.

The Silverswords will play on the Saint Louis pitch a final time in 2019 when they face Holy Names on Thursday with a 12:30 p.m. kickoff. It will be the final home games for Hambly, Stafford, Curtis Coburn (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach), Davin Garma (Kalaheo, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama), Isaiah Kuloloia (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani), Micah Mokulehua (Waimanalo, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kaiser), Jared Rivera (Union City, Calif./Ohlone College/James Logan HS), Matthew Schmidt (Hanalei, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Technology Academy) and Joshua Wong (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Maryknoll).
