INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Chaminade University men's basketball team is ranked 10th in the final set of Division II Regional Rankings released by the NCAA on Wednesday.
The Silverswords (17-10 overall, 17-7 vs. Division II) are in the rankings for the first time this season after being on the outside looking in the first two weeks of the rankings.
UC San Diego (27-1) is No. 1 in the West Region rankings while Azusa Pacific (25-3) is the top school from the Pacific West Conference, holding the No. 2 spot. Fellow PacWest member Point Loma (22-6) is sixth.
The top eight teams from each of the eight Division II regions will earn bids to the NCAA Regionals which begins next weekend.
Chaminade is in Azusa, Calif., for the PacWest Championships and are the No. 3 seed. They open the first round Thursday against sixth-seeded Academy of Art (12-17) at 3 p.m. Hawai'i time (5 p.m. Pacific). The Silverswords will likely have to win the tournament and, with it, the PacWest's automatic berth to get a bid the regionals.
