AIEA, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's golf team had a full day on the links Tuesday, facing the University of Hawai'i Hilo and Hawai'i Pacific University in the two-round Hawai'i Triangular at the par-72, 6,787-yard Pearl Country Club.
The Silverswords finished third with a 642 while HPU won the team title with a 595, edging UH Hilo by just one shot. Chaminade shot a 317 in the morning's opening round then 325 in the final 18, played in the afternoon.
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) fired identical 5-over-par 77s to finish 10th overall with a 10-over 154.
Freshman
Ryan Shields Vega (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) carded 7-over 79s in both rounds and placed 12th overall with a 158.
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) opened the triangular with a 79 then had a final round 83 for a total of 162 while
Gavin Bedoya (Honolulu/Kaiser), playing as an individual, shot 167 after an 85 and 82, respectively.
Ryan Netelbeek (Salt Lake City/Cottonwood) carded an 82 and 88 for a total of 170 while
Emerson Gardner (Holladay, Utah/Cottonwood) and
Jackson Tyler (La Plata, Md./Wesley College/Montverde, Fla., Academy) both shot 180s. Gardner and Tyler were the two Chaminade golfers to improve their scores in the second round. Gardner had a 94 in the opening round and an 86 in the final round while Tyler shot 92 and 88, respectively.
Jett Jones (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego) rounded out the 'Swords with a 186.
Gardner and Bedoya accounted for two of the tournament's total four eagles. Gardner's came in the first round on the par-5 No. 5 while Bedoya had his in the second on the par-5 No. 12.
HPU's Kelii Dudoit and UH Hilo's Keith Ng shared medalist honors by both shooting 2-under 142.
The Silverswords will wrap their fall non-championship season at the two-round Dennis Rose Invitational at the Waikoloa Beach Course on the Big Island on Oct. 25 and 26.
