Men’s Golf Opens PGA WORKS Championship in 4th

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Chaminade University men's golf team shot an opening round 305 at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship at the par-71 The Park course.
 
The Silverswords, making their third straight appearance in the championships and won the title in 2024, are nine shots behind first-round leader Morehouse College.
 
Riley Born (Las Vegas/Odyssey) and Tanner Capik (Los Angeles/Beverly Hills) both shot opening-round 3-over-par 75s, tying them for eighth overall, six shots behind co-leaders Joel Cunningham of Morehouse and Jacob Alcorta of Western New Mexico.
 
Born had a rather consistent first round, totaling 15 pars on the afternoon.
 
Capik, who was at 6-over at the turn, rebounded with three birdies in his final nine holes including at the 580-yard par-5 9th.
 
Chance Wilson (Princeville, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Enlightium Academy) is tied for 16th after shooting a 7-over 78.
 
A.J. Dahlk (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) and Cody Dao (Henderson, Nev./Liberty) both shot 79s in their opening rounds.
 
Dao will be the first Chaminade golfer to get underway with his tee time at the 10th hole at 6:20 a.m. Hawai'i time. He will be followed by Dahlk at 6:31 a.m., Wilson at 6:42, Capik at 6:53 and Born at 7:04.
 
The Golf Channel will televise the second round starting at 10 a.m. Hawai'i time until 1 p.m.
 
The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship (PWCC) is considered the most culturally significant championship in collegiate golf. Teams and golfers in the tournament represent Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and other Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) across all three NCAA divisions, NAIA and junior colleges.
 
Chaminade University of Honolulu is a Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) serving institution.
 
The PWCC hosts five different division championships: Division I Men's, Women's Team, Division II Men's, Women's Individual and Men's Individual.
