WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's golf team concluded their fall non-championships season Wednesday with a 12th-place overall finish at the Dennis Rose Invitational held at the par-70, 6,566-yard Waikoloa Beach Course on the Big Island.
The Silverswords shot a final round 318 to finish with a three-round total of 944.
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) capped off his 54-hole performance with a final round 8-over-par 78 to finish as the 'Swords' top finisher at 230, finishing 52nd overall.
Freshman
Ryan Shields Vega (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) finished three shots behind Gunderson at 233 after carding a final round 3-over 73.
Chaminade's Round 1 leader,
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei), struggled with an 81 in Round 3, finishing with a 234.
Emerson Gardner (Holladay, Utah/Cottonwood) posted a third-round 86 for a total of 247 and
Ryan Netelbeek (Salt Lake City/Cottonwood) shot an 87 and finished at 262.
The Silverswords did manage to drain two eagles, tied for the tournament lead with Northwest Nazarene. Gunderson and Emerson had the team's eagles, both coming in Tuesday's second round.
Colorado Christian, ranked No. 38 in the GolfStat Division II national rankings, won the team title with an 839, 10 shots better than runner-up Western New Mexico.
CCU's Cam Sandland took home individual medalist honors with a 7-under 203, winning by three strokes ahead of Cal State San Bernardino's Brian Nielson.
The Silverswords will resume action in the spring for their regular championship season.
