HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's and women's cross country teams made their final tune-ups Saturday as the Pacific West Conference Championships draws near.

The Silverswords hosted their own Chaminade Invitational at Kapiolani Park during very windy and gusty conditions in Waikiki.

In the men's 8-kilometer course, Owen Daugherty (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) finished as the individual runner-up by setting a personal best 8-k time of 29 minutes, 31.8 seconds, besting his previous low by less than half a second set a week earlier at the Hawai'i Pacific Invitational.

Daugherty finished a minute behind men's winner, Kent Glover of HPU.

For the second consecutive race, Elijah Bernardo-Flores (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) enjoyed a fifth-place overall finish, and like Daugherty, clocked a personal-best time of 30:28.9.

Peter Jan Ramos (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waipahu) was Chaminade's third finisher at 32:14.3 followed by Kaulana Navares (Waianae, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani), who competed in his first race of the year, at 33:05.4.

Josiah Rodrigues (Honoka'a, Hawai'i/Honoka'a) logged a time of 33:40.1, just missing his personal-best 8-k by just over one second. Conor McMahon (Pacifica, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) rounded out the 'Swords' men at 34:08.6.

The Sharks won the team race with 21 points while Chaminade posted 34.

In the women's 6-k, Caitlin Bocobo (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Sacred Hearts), in just her second career race, was the team's top finisher at 23:08.0. Ashley Yoshikawa (Northbrook, Ill/Glenbrook North) followed at 24:49.2.

Eri Leong (Las Vegas/SECTA) finished the race at 25:14.6 while newcomer Leila-Jayne Casison (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waipahu), on loan from the women's soccer team, completed the course in 25:30.0. Kianna Swingle (Oro Valley, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge) and Taylor Aguano (Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler) finished at 28:32.8 and 28:49.5, respectively.

As a team, Chaminade had 99 points with a fourth-place team finish.

Samantha North of Division I Hawai'i was the top finisher at 19:47.1 while the Rainbow Wahine captured the team title by sweeping the first five spots.

Both Silversword teams will have the week off as they prepare for the PacWest Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Kahuku Golf Course. Chaminade is serving as the host of the championships with assistance from HPU.
