HONOLULU – Chaminade University Athletics announced Friday the departure of longtime men's and women's cross country head coach
Shadrack Nabea.
Nabea, who had spent 18 years with the program, the first six as an assistant and the last 12 as head coach, guided the Silverswords to a number of outstanding seasons during his tenure.
During his 12 years as head coach, the men's program had 18 individual podium finishes (top 3 overall finishes) with five race victories while the women had 15 podium finishes and six individual wins.
This past season, the 'Swords' women participated in the NCAA West Regional for the third straight year while
Nikiji Dayse (Memphis, Tenn./Bartlett) earned All-Pacific West Conference third team honors and broke the program's 6-kilometer time in the final three races of the season. She was honored in this past April's Chaminade Athletics Awards Ceremonies as the Female Athlete of the Year, a first for the program.
Nabea was also instrumental in the success of Maria Steinke, who won three races during her two-year CUH career from 2023-24.
The men's team also had success under his tutelage with individual wins by Peter Ramos (2024), Mason Stewart (twice in 2023) and Beau Larsen (2018). Owen Daugherty has the most podium finishes under Nabea's watch with five. Ramos was also Chaminade's Male Athlete of the Year during the 2024-25 year.
A search for a successor is already underway.
