HONOLULU – Chaminade University Athletics has named Ty Sissel the new head coach for the men's and women's cross country teams.
Sissel comes to Chaminade after a highly successful 10-year coaching career at Radford High School in Honolulu including his last two as head coach. During his decade-long tenure, the Rams' cross country and track & field squads were regularly contending for league and state championships.
In 2024, Sissel's first as head coach, both Radford cross country teams won O'ahu Interscholastic Association championships with the girls squad capturing the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Division I title and the boys a third-place finish.
In 2025, the girls team finished as OIA runners-up and fourth in the HHSAA championships while the boys came in fourth in the OIA and eighth in the state meet.
In addition to coaching, Sissel is also a performance coach for youth athletes in focusing on drills for strength, endurance and injury prevention.
Sissel is a graduate of Saint Martin's University, a fellow NCAA Division II institution in Lacey, Washington, where he was a four-year member of the Saints' track & field team. His 400-meter hurdle time of 54.99 in 2013 is still the second-lowest in program history.
Sissel succeeds Shadrack Nabea, who stepped down in May after an 18-year run with the 'Swords including the final 12 as head coach.
