Men’s Golf Opens HPU Sharks Shootout

WAHIAWA, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's golf team opened the Hawai'i Pacific University Sharks Shootout Tuesday with a 304 at the 7,019-yard, par-72 Leilehua Golf Course.
 
The Silverswords are 16th, just three shots behind Northwest Nazarene.
 
Zachary DuBourdieu (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek) is tied for 22nd overall after firing an opening round even-par 72, carding five birdies on the afternoon. Ethan Alexander (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep), playing as an individual (meaning his score does not count for the team), is just two shots behind at 2-over 74 and is tied for 40th.
 
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) is at 3-over with Jet Magsanide (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Campbell) at 5-over. Like Alexander, Robbie Kia (Honolulu/Mililani) is also playing as an individual and is at 6-over. Kia eagled the par-5, 15th, one of nine eagles recorded in the first round.
 
Matt Monaghan (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron) and Kal O'Brien (Mackinaw City, Mich./Marymount California Univ./Mackinaw City HS) both shot 8-over 80s to round out Chaminade's team scoring.
 
Ro Razavi (O'Fallon, Mo./Liberty) and Blake Buonopane (Rowley, Mass./St. John's Prep) shot 80 and 98, respectively. Both are playing as individuals.
 
Chico State, ranked 40th in the GolfStat national rankings, leads the team standings at 9-under, five shots better than Stanislaus State.
 
Chico State's Tyler Ashman is the first round individual leader with a 5-under 67, holding a one-shot lead over Matthew Pennington of Cal State San Marcos.
 
The Silverswords conclude the Shootout in Tuesday's 18-hole finale with the shotgun start tee time at 7:30 a.m.
