WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's golf team opened the annual Dennis Rose Invitational on Friday in 16th at the 6,566-yard, par-70 Waikoloa Beach Resort Golf Course.
The Silverswords shot a 318 in the first round, four shots behind Northwest Nazarene.
Zachary DuBourdieu (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek), two days removed from his under-par performance at the Southwest Airlines HPU Sharks Shootout, fired an opening round 3-over-par 73, tying him for 22nd overall.
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) opened with an 80, followed by
Kal O'Brien (Mackinaw City, Mich./Marymount California Univ./Mackinaw City HS) at 82,
Matt Monaghan (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron) at 83 and
Ethan Alexander (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep) at 86.
Playing as individuals,
Robbie Kia (Honolulu/Mililani) shot a 6-over 76, the second-lowest score among individuals, while
Blake Buonopane (Rowley, Mass./St. John's Prep) had 100.
Western Washington is the first round team leader at 1-over 281. WWU's Jordan Lee is the first round individual leader at 5-under 65.
The Silverswords conclude the tournament on Saturday which will also be their final competition of the non-championship fall season. Shotgun start times is at 7:30 a.m.
