PLEASANTON, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's golf team concluded their first tournament of the spring championship season with a 13th-place finish at the Bay Area Invitational hosted by Cal State East Bay at the par-72, 6,980-yard Ruby Hill Golf Club.
The Silverswords shot a third and final round 321 to finish at 954, 15 shots behind Hawai'i Pacific University.
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) fired a 6-over-par 78 in the final round, finishing as the 'Swords' low scorer at 236.
Ryan Shields Vega (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) posted a third-round 79 for 54-hole total of 240, followed by
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) at 241.
Josh Lavallee (Haverhill, Mass./Central Catholic) finished his first collegiate tournament at 243 while fellow mid-season addition
Seven Birks (Houston, Texas/IMG Academy) shot a 246.
Cal State San Marcos won the event with an even-par 864, 19 shots better than runner-up Sonoma State. CSUSM's Matt Pennington was the individual winner at 8-under, defeating teammate Matthew Moss by five shots.
The Silverswords will next be in action at the Northwest Nazarene University's Nighthawk Invitational on March 7-8 in Livermore, Calif.
