Men’s Golf Opens Tim Tierney Shootout

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's golf team is in 17th place Monday after posting a two-round total of 611 at the Tim Tierney Shootout at the par-72 Corica Park South Golf Course.
 
The Silverswords opened the morning 18-hole round with a 307 then followed up the afternoon 18 with a 304.
 
Seven Birks (Houston/IMG Academy) shot 5-over-par 149 to lead the Silverswords, aided by six birdies in the afternoon.
 
Ryan Shields Vega (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) is five shots behind Birks. After struggling with an 8-over-par in the opening 18, the freshman rebounded at even-par in the afternoon, recording four birdies to go along with four bogeys.
 
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) and Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) followed with matching 11-over-pars followed by Blake Buonopane (Rowley, Mass./St. John's Prep) who had a 168.
 
Cal State Monterey Bay is the Round 2 leader at 562, seven shots ahead of host Cal State East Bay.
 
CSU East Bay's Ananjan Kaushik, playing as an individual (whose score doesn't count in the team scoring) leads after 36 holes with an 8-under 136. Five golfers are tied for second at 5-under-par.
 
The Silverswords wrap up the Shootout in Tuesday's final round. Tee times are at 1:30 p.m. Pacific.
