Men’s Golf Breaks 300 in Tierney Final Round

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's golf team posted their best single-round score of the season in Tuesday's final round of Cal State East Bay's Tim Tierney Shootout at the par-72, 6,783-yard  Corica Park South Course.
 
The Silverswords shot a 299 to finish the tournament at 910, just seven shots behind Academy of Art. It was the first time the 'Swords broke 300 since October 2019 when they also posted a 299 in a dual match against Hawai'i Pacific University.
 
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) and Ryan Shields Vega (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) tied for the lowest Chaminade scores at 226 each. Gunderson tied his career-low for a single round by firing a 1-under-par 71, which included an eagle on the par-5 15th. Shields birdied five holes to post a 2-over 74 in the third round.
 
Seven Birks (Houston/IMG Academy) shot 78 in the final round to finish at 227 followed by Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) finished the Shootout at 231 while Blake Buonopane (Rowley, Mass./St. John's Prep) totaled 254.
 
Cal State Monterey Bay won the team title at minus-18, six shots better than runner-up Cal State San Bernardino. CSU East Bay's Ananjan Kaushik won the individual title, defeating Monterey Bay's Liam Allder in a playoff. Both shot 207 for the tournament.
 
The Silverswords' next scheduled event is a dual match against HPU on April 12 at Pearl Country Club. The Pacific West Conference Championships will be held the following week in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
