Men’s Golf Ends PacWest Championships in 6th

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Chaminade University men's golf team wrapped up their 2022 season Wednesday with a sixth place finish at the Pacific West Conference Championships at the par-72, 7,025-yard Wigwam Golf Course.
 
The Silverswords shot a 310 in the third and final round to finish with a 928, just 11 shots behind fifth-place Academy of Art.
 
Ryan Shields Vega (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) finished in a tie for 15th overall after a final round 83, giving him a 232 total. Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) wrapped up his collegiate career, finishing just one shot behind Shields Vega after carding a 5-over-par 77. Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) had the 'Swords' low score of the final round with a 4-over 76 to finish the championships at 234.
 
Seven Birks (Houston/IMG Academy) shot a 77 to finish at 236 while Blake Buonopane (Rowley, Mass./St. John's Prep) carded an 80 for the third consecutive day to finish with a 240 total.
 
Hawai'i Pacific University won the PacWest team title for the first time in school history, defeating Hawai'i Hilo in a playoff after both teams finished with identical 899 scores.
 
HPU's Keita Okada repeated as PacWest individual champion at 2-under-par, four shots ahead of Holy Names' Edvin Backstrom.
 
HPU also claimed three points in the PacWest Hawai'i Challenge while UH Hilo eared two points. CUH got one point for its third-place finish between the three schools.
