Thirteen Softball ’Swords Achieve NFCA Academic Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A record 13 student-athletes from the Chaminade University softball team were honored as Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II All-America Scholar-Athletes for the 2021-22 year.
 
Bailey Jacobsen (Buena Park, Calif./Cypress), Chasity McKean (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/College of Southern Nevada/Kapolei HS), Cheyne Obara (Pearl City, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City), Hailey Hayakawa (Honolulu/Saint Francis HS), Haley Hayakawa (Torrance, Calif./South), Kailah Gates-Coyaso (Waianae, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waianae), Keaolani Takemura (Pearl City, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mid-Pacific Institute), Kieren Lopez (Bakersfield, Calif./Frontier), Kobe Brown (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani), Malia Ka'akimaka-Moisa (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Campbell), Robbi Gallegos (Long Beach, Calif./Saint Joseph), Taylor Genera (Norwalk, Calif./Whitney) and Yolanda Racaza (San Pedro, Calif./Port of Los Angeles) were all honored by the NFCA for their academic work.
 
Academic excellence is nothing new for the softball Silverswords. The program had 16 of their 17 rostered players on the Academic All-Pacific West Conference Team in June and captured Chaminade Athletics' highest team grade-point average for the second consecutive year.
 
To be recognized as an Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.50 GPA during the 2021-22 academic term.
