Men’s Golf Opens WWU Invitational in 17th

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Chaminade University men's golf team on Monday opened the first two rounds of the Western Washington Invitational with a 627 at the par-72, 6,610-yard Bellingham Golf and Country Club.
 
The Silverswords shot a first-round 314 in the morning then returned in the afternoon's second round with a 313. They are trailing Northwest Nazarene by just six shots.
 
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) opened with a 7-over-par 151 to lead the Chaminade group. The senior fired a 2-over 74 in the morning then followed with a 5-over 77 in the afternoon, putting him in a tie for 55th in the 91-player field.
 
Kal O'Brien (Mackinaw City, Mich./Marymount California Univ./Mackinaw City HS) put a 36-hole total of 157 after recording a 79 and 78, his first two sub-80 scores of the season.
 
Zachary DuBourdieu (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek) is just three shots behind O'Brien at 160, shooting respective scores of 81 and 79. Ethan Alexander (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep) shot 83 and 79 for a 162 followed by Matt Monaghan (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron) at 163 (80-83).
 
Host Western Washington leads after two rounds at 561, one shot better than Holy Names.
 
Edvin Backstrom of Holy Names and Dustin Franco of Hawai'i Hilo are the co-leaders at 8-under 136, both holding one shot leads over WWU's Seth King.
 
The WWU Invitational concludes Tuesday with the third and final round with tee times at 6 a.m. Hawai'i time.
