Men’s Soccer Wraps Trip vs. No. 14 Buffs

NAMPA, Idaho – The Chaminade University men's soccer team completed their season-opening road trip Thursday with a 4-0 defeat to West Texas A&M at the Northwest Nazarene Soccer Field.

West Texas A&M, the 14th-ranked team in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, improved to 2-0-2 on the year while the Silverswords fell to 0-2.

The Buffaloes struck first with a successful penalty kick goal by Kenny Brown in the 27th minute. A little over five minutes later, Brown struck again. This time, he launched an arcing shot from 25 feet out over the outstretched arms of Chaminade keeper Brandon Yasue (Honolulu/Kaiser) which just cleared the post in the high-left corner, putting WTAM up, 2-0.

The 'Swords also hurt themselves in the first half with nine fouls, three yellow cards and a red card which forced them to play a man down in the game's final 100 minutes.

The Buffs tacked two more goals in the second half for the final margin.

West Texas A&M outshot Chaminade, 23-to-3 and had 11 shots on-goal. Isaac O'Neill (Fernley, Nev./Grand Canyon/Fernley HS), Kekoa Kuloloia (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) and Ian Inigo (Houston/Bridgeland) each attempted one shot for the 'Swords.

Yasue made seven saves while his counterpart, Alfonso Aragon, did not make a stop before being pulled in the 70th minute.

The Silverswords return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 20 against Hawai'i Pacific University in a non-conference tilt at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium in Waipahu. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
