IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's basketball team has been named the Pacific West Conference Team of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday.
The Silverswords won both games at McCabe Gymnasium last week, defeating Academy of Art and Dominican University of California, both of whom are ahead of them in the conference standings.
Isaac Amaral-Artharee (Portland, Ore./Central Catholic) buried a 3-pointer as time expired to defeat the Urban Knights, 98-95, last Tuesday which prevented ART U from sweeping their Hawai'i road trip. Then on Friday, the 'Swords outscored Dominican, 36-22, in the second half for a 69-55 win.
After a slow start where they were 5-8 and just 1-5 in the conference at the end of the 2022 calendar year, Chaminade has won four of their last five to improve to 9-9 overall and 4-6 in the PacWest. Their only loss during the stretch came on Jan. 7 against Point Loma, the final conference undefeated at 10-0.
The Silverswords are currently sitting a half-game behind Dominican for the sixth spot in the PacWest standings. The top six teams qualify for the conference tournament which will be held at McCabe Gymnasium from March 2-4.
Point Loma's Kaden Anderson was named the Player of the Week while Defender of the Week went to Hawai'i Hilo's Nadjrick Peat.
