Four members of the Chaminade University men's basketball team were recognized for academic excellence on Tuesday by being named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
Brandon Haddock (Southlake, Texas/University of Utah/Carroll HS),
Fletcher MacDonald (Wollongong, Australia/Lubbock Christian Univ./Newington College HS),
Nathan Medina (Long Beach, Calif./Biola University/Valley Christian HS) and
Brycen Shackelford (Folsom, Calif./Folsom) were all named on the CSC Academic All-District Team.
Haddock, a graduate transfer from the University of Utah, was one of the first players off the bench in his only season with the Silverswords, posted 6.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game, all career highs. Haddock is studying for his Master's of Business Administration and has a 4.00 grade-point average.
MacDonald averaged 9.0 points, 5.7 rebounds with 19 blocked shots this past season. The senior forward shot 57.9 percent from the floor which would have been second in the Pacific West Conference but fell shy of the 5.0 field goals made minimum set by the conference. MacDonald carries a 4.00 in Computer Science.
Medina was one of the top scorers in the PacWest this season, finishing sixth in scoring at 16.1 points per game and was one of the conference's most feared shooter with defenders guarding him closely as soon as he stepped past half court as his 2.5 made 3-pointers per game would attest. Medina, who owns a cumulative combined GPA of 3.50 in Business Management at Chaminade and his previous institution at Biola University, had a pair of 30-point outings including 30 against Texas, a current Elite Eight participant in the Division I men's tournament.
Shackelford was one of the first players off the bench, posting averages of 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds while shooting 45.2 percent from the field. With a 3.75 GPA in Business Administration, he is a two-time recipient of the CSC Academic All-District award, having also been named in 2024.
To be recognized on the Academic All-District team, candidates must be a sophomore both academically and athletically, have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 and have played in either 90 percent or have started in 66 percent of their team's contests.
Institutions can nominate up to four candidates for Academic All-District honors.
