LIVERMORE, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's golf team completed their first real competition of the spring championship season Tuesday by finishing 11th at the Nighthawks Invitational, hosted by Northwest Nazarene University, at the par-72 Poppy Ridge Golf Course.
The Silverswords, who had been at the practice range and not played outside competition since the spring season began in January, finished with a 654, one shot better than William Jessup University, which finished 12th. Chaminade shot 330 in Monday's opening round then 324 in Tuesday's final round.
Ethan Alexander (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep) completed the tournament with consecutive 7-over-par 79s, finishing in a tie for 37th overall.
Zachary DuBourdieu (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek) and
Kal O'Brien (Mackinaw City, Mich./Marymount California Univ./Mackinaw City HS) both finished at 167. DuBourdieu shot 82-85 while O'Brien shot 81 on Tuesday, five shots better than his Monday score.
Matt Monaghan (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron) also improved his final round score, carding a 79 after posting a first round 89 for a 168.
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) finished at 170 (83-87).
The Silverswords will remain in northern California for the week and will next participate in the Cal State East Bay's Tim Tierney Shootout at the Corica Park South Course in Alameda, California, starting on Monday.
