LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Chaminade University men's golf team concluded the 2023 season with a sixth-place finish in the Pacific West Conference Championships at the par-72, 7,025-yard Wigwam Golf Course.
The Silverswords shot a final round 331 to finish for a 54-hole total of 960, 27 shots behind fifth-place Hawai'i Pacific University.
The University of Hawai'i Hilo ran away with the PacWest title with a 879, a 10-stroke win over runner-up Dominican University of California, to capture the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II West/South Central Super Regional which will be held at Rohnert Park, California, in mid-May.
Ethan Alexander (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep), who was just three shots off the lead after two rounds and was well in contention for the individual title, struggled with an 11-over-par 84 in the final round to finish tied for 13th overall at 228.
The freshman began the morning on the right track with a birdie on the first hole but suffered two double-bogeys later in the front 9. Like the rest of the field where scores were high on the final day, Alexander's struggles continued in the back, shooting 6-over in the final four holes to drop him out of contention.
Zachary DuBourdieu (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek) shot 81 in the final round to finish tied for 22nd at 238
Senior
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) carded an 82 in the final round, finishing at 251. With four birdies during the championships, Peterson has 89 in his career, passing Jarin Harada for fifth among the school leaders in birdies, although he still has a season-of-competition which would give him a fifth year of eligibility, should he opt to take it.
Matt Monaghan (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron) wrapped up his first year at Chaminade with a final round 91 to finish at 253 while
Kal O'Brien (Mackinaw City, Mich./Marymount California Univ./Mackinaw City HS) shot an 85 in the final 18 for a three-day total of 257.
UH Hilo teammates Andrew Otani and Junsu Im finished as co-champions individually at 217 each.
