HONOLULU – Chaminade University men's basketball head coach
Eric Bovaird announced Tuesday the recruits who will join the Silverswords for the 2023-24 season.
Matt Fegurgur comes to Chaminade as a transfer from Long Beach State. A native of Sinajana, Guam, the 6-foot-10 forward did not see any court time at the Beach during his sophomore year. Fegurgur spent his freshman season at the City College of San Francisco where he totaled 36 points, 26 rebounds and 11 blocked shots, helping the Rams to a 32-1 mark and the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championship. He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Wyatt Lowell is a graduate transfer from the University of Portland where he averaged 4.2 points and 1.5 rebounds in just over eight minutes per outing in his only season with the Pilots. The 6-9 forward's best performance came in a Nov. 30 contest against Multnomah where he buried six 3-pointers for a season-high 20 points while also dishing out five assists. Lowell began his collegiate career at Utah Valley, where he was the 2018-19 Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year. He also played briefly at BYU in the 2020-21 season then at Snow College in '21-22 where he was an All-Region 18 First Team selection after posting 13.8 points and 4.8 boards per game. Lowell will one season of eligibility remaining.
Brendan Mora is a transfer from Pomona-Pitzer College in Claremont, California, where he was the two-time Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and twice named a NABC Division III Third Team All-American. The 6-5 guard was named to the D3Hoops.com All-West Region First Team after averaging 16.4 points, and 8.9 rebounds while shooting at a 48.4 percent clip in helping the Sagehens to the SCIAC regular season title and a berth in the Division III Tournament. He posted nine 20-point games last season including a career-high 27 against Occidental on Feb. 8. Mora has 1,110 points and 710 rebounds during his career at Pomona-Pitzher, which puts him 14th among the program's all-time scoring leaders and seventh in career boards. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Alec Peterson is a 6-4 guard from Rolling Hills Prep in Rancho Palos Verde, California, and helped the Huskies to the second round of the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Division I playoffs.
Kelton Samore is a transfer from Seattle Pacific University, a fellow Division II West Region program. The 6-9 forward spent the last three seasons with the Falcons, averaging 8.6 points and 3.9 rebounds in 55 career games. Last season, his first as a full-time starter, Samore logged 14 double-digit scoring games, averaging 9.9 per contest, including a career-high 21 at Simon Fraser. He also shot 62.3 percent from the floor, ranking third in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in the category. Samore began his collegiate career at American University in Washington, D.C., but did not play. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Jamir Thomas is a transfer from the City College of San Francisco where the 6-foot guard from Berkeley, California, averaged 11.8 points per game this past season. The incoming junior helped the Rams to a 29-4 campaign and a berth in the CCCAA state championship game for the second straight season. Thomas led CCSF in 3-pointers this past season, knocking down 76 at a near-43 percent clip and has made 153 career triples. He and Fegurgur were teammates on the 2021-22 squad that captured the CCCAA state title.
The Silverswords return three starters from last season's squad including guards
Isaac Amaral-Artharee, the team's leading scorer the past three seasons and three-time All-Pacific West Conference selection,
Ross Reeves, last year's Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Year, and forward
Scott Ator.
