The Chaminade University women's volleyball team on Monday was named the Pacific West Conference Co-Team of the Week while remaining at No. 7 in the latest AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll.
Â
The Silverswords, who shared the award with Point Loma, won both their matches last week to improve to 21-4 and 14-0 in the conference, a half-game ahead of the undefeated Sea Lions (19-0, 13-0 PacWest) in the standings.
Â
The 'Swords survived a five-set thriller against Fresno Pacific on Halloween Thursday, rallying from a two-sets-to-one deficit. The win not only extended their win streak over the Sunbirds to 16 straight, the team's longest active winning streak against a single opponent.
Â
On Friday, the Silverswords faced a red-hot Jessup squad which had won five straight, four on the road, entering the match and got an early test before establishing control in the final three sets. It was also their 54th straight win over a PacWest northern California team.
Â
Concordia University Irvine's Kawehi Chang was the player of the week while FPU's MaKenna Hughes was the defender of the week.
Â
In the AVCA Poll, Chaminade remains at No. 7 for the second straight week. Ferris State is the new No. 1, replacing MSU Denver who fell to fourth after the Roadrunners lost to Colorado Mesa over the weekend.
Â
Former CUH opponents, St. Cloud State and Cal Poly Pomona, are second and third, respectively with Nebraska-Kearney rounding out the top five.
Â
Other west region squads in the poll include Point Loma (No. 15), San Francisco State (19) and Cal State Los Angeles (24). The NCAA will also release the top 10 teams in each region this Wednesday which will be in alphabetical order.
