Three members from the Chaminade University men's basketball team on Wednesday were recognized for academic excellence by being named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
Isaac Amaral-Artharee (Portland, Ore./Central Catholic),
Scott Ator (Murphy, Texas/College of the Sequoias/Wylie HS) and
Brycen Shackelford (Folsom, Calif./Folsom) were honored for their work not only on the hardwood but in the classroom.
Amaral-Artharee completed a decorated career for the Silverswords. A six-year member of the team, which included a redshirt year in 2018-19, the Portland, Oregon native departs Chaminade as the program's No. 2 all-time scorer with 1,732 points. Only the great Richard Haenisch has more with 2,098. He is also second in career 3-pointers with 236. Amaral-Artharee completed his bachelor's degree in Business Administration in spring 2022 and also has an MBA as he finished his athletic eligibility.
He was also a three-time All-Pacific West Conference honoree and was the conference's freshman of the year in the 2019-20 season. The four-time Academic All-PacWest honoree is on the CSC Academic All-District Team for the second straight year.
Ator wrapped up his two seasons at Chaminade, tallying 7.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest in his senior year. He was also one of the PacWest's top shot blockers with 34. His 72 career blocks is tied for eighth in 'Swords' history. The Accounting major will receive his degree this semester.
Shackelford was a valuable member off the bench for the Silverswords, playing in 26 of the team's 28 games after sitting out last season as a redshirt. The Folsom, California, native is majoring in Business Administration.
To be considered for the CSC Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 and participate in at least 90 percent or start in at least 66 percent of the team's total games for the season.
