Stopp Co-Leads PacWest Championship as Men’s Golf Remains 3rd

WAIMEA, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's golf team remained in third after the second round of the Pacific West Conference Men's Golf Championship at the par-72 Mauna Lani Golf Course.
 
With slightly less windy conditions, the Silverswords shot a 295 on the second day, putting their total at 615 to trail team leader and defending conference champion Hawai'i Hilo by 15 shots and Hawai'i Pacific University by 10.
 
Ky Stopp (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson), who was third overall after Monday's first round, fired an even-par 72, tying him with two others for the individual lead at 2-over 146 heading into Wednesday's final round.
 
The freshman opened the second round with bogeys on two of his first three holes before parring the next six. Stopp then opened the back nine with birdies on 10 and 11, putting him sole possession of the lead by two shots until HPU's Shion Suzuki birdied 15 and 16, putting the two in a tie. UH Hilo's Nicholas Gomez joined them atop the leaderboard with a birdie on 17. The trio have a one-shot lead heading into the final round.
 
Jack Yeager (San Clemente, Calif./JSerra Catholic) rebounded from Monday's 84 with a 2-over 74 in Round 2, putting him in 11th overall at 11-over 155.
 
Like Yeager, Zachary DuBourdieu (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek) also shot 2-over in his second 18 holes, an 11-shot improvement.
 
Blake Buonopane (Rowley, Mass./St. John's Prep) follows at 161 after shooting 81 on Monday while Ethan Alexander's (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep) two-round total is 162 after a 3-over 75 on Tuesday.
 
The final round of the PacWest Championship is Wednesday with the first group teeing off at 9:40 a.m. Alexander is the first 'Sword to get under at 10:30 a.m. while Stopp, Suzuki and Gomez will tee off at 11:10 a.m. Stopp is seeking to become the first Chaminade golfer to win a PacWest golf title.
