GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Chaminade University men's golf team began their final mainland trip of the season on Friday, opening the Hot Dirt Shootout at the par-72 Golf Club of Estrella.
The Silverswords shot an opening round 315, placing them 18th overall. They are one shot ahead of Saint Martin's University.
Jack Yeager (San Clemente, Calif./JSerra Catholic) fired a 5-over-par 77.
Ky Stopp (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) follows with a 6-over 78 and had a strong back-nine with just two bogeys.
Zachary DuBourdieu (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek) and
Ethan Alexander (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep) are tied for Chaminade's third-lowest score with an 80.
Blake Buonopane (Rowley, Mass./St. John's Prep) rounds out the 'Swords' group with an 83.
The Shootout, featuring teams from the West and South Central Regions as defined by NCAA Division II and hosted by the Colorado School of Mines, concludes with the final 18 holes on Saturday.
