HONOLULU – Chaminade University men's basketball coach Eric Bovaird announced Tuesday the promotion of Roman Young to the No. 2 assistant coach position.

Young, a former starting guard for the Silverswords, spent the past two years as a volunteer assistant coach for the team.

"Roman has been an integral part of this program since he was a starting point guard," Bovaird said. "He does so much behind the scenes and helps us stay abreast of the technological advances now associated with college basketball. And our players love working with him.

"We're looking forward to having him in a more expanded role to help our men's basketball program."

The Wichita, Kansas, native played under Bovaird for three seasons from 2018-20. In his first playing season (2018-19), the 'Swords achieved their first national ranking in eight years, won 23 games – a record during the team's Division II era – and eventually earned an at-large berth into the NCAA West Regional. In his final two seasons, he finished second on the team in assists.

Young received his degree in Business Administration in spring 2020.
