LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Chaminade University softball team was honored for academic success during the 2023-24 academic year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
The Silverswords earned the Easton/NFCA Team GPA Award for the third straight year, and the fifth time all-time, after posting a grade-point average of 3.53 during the year. Teams must have a minimum 3.00 GPA during the term to be eligible for the team award.
Also, 10 Silverswords were honored as Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes. Earning the award are
Bailey Benson (Cheney, Wash./Gonzaga Preparatory),
Kobe Brown (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani),
Summer Buck (Honolulu/Kaiser),
Taryn Fujioka (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City),
Kailah Gates-Coyaso (Waianae, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waianae),
Haley Hayakawa (Torrance, Calif./South),
Bailey Jacobsen (Buena Park, Calif./Cypress),
Chasity McKean (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/College of Southern Nevada/Kapolei HS),
Ashley Ogata (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) and
Keaolani Takemura-Brehme (Pearl City, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mid-Pacific Institute).
Brown, Gates-Coyaso, Hayakawa, McKean and Takemura-Brehme, all seniors, earned the scholar-athlete award for a third time.
To earn the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must achieve a 3.50 GPA during the 2023-24 academic calendar.
