HONOLULU – Chaminade University men's basketball head coach Eric Bovaird on Thursday announced the signing of nine newcomers to the 2024-25 team.
Quadry Adams is a 6-foot-4 guard who spent the past two seasons at Sacramento State. His last playing season was in 2022-23 where he saw action in 27 contests prior to sitting out on a medical hardship last season because of an injury. Adams also played at St. Bonaventure in 2021-22 and began his collegiate career at Wake Forest. He was one of the top high school point guards coming out of the state of New Jersey in 2020.
Amound Anderson is a 6-2 guard who played last season at Fullerton College in Fullerton, California, where he helped the Hornets win the Orange Empire Conference and reach the semifinals of the 3C2A state tournament. He averaged 9.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game last season. Prior to lone season at Fullerton, Anderson attended Southern Utah University during the 2022-23 and 2021-22 seasons. He began his collegiate career at CSUN where he logged 17 games and averaged 5.4 points per outing during the 2020-21 season with a career-high 16 against Hawai'i.
RJ Banks joins Anderson in arriving from Fullerton College, where he totaled 498 points, 176 rebounds and 167 assists during his 2 1/2 years there. In 19 games for the Hornets during the 2023-24 season, Banks averaged 8.0 points and 2.8 boards per contest. The Bakersfield, California, native took a medical hardship season after playing just eight games in 2021-22. Banks returned the following season, posting 8.6, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
Zeki Cavli is from McCook Junior College in McCook, Nebraska. A native from Bodrum, Turkey, Calvi spent the past two seasons with the Indians making 39 starts in 63 games. The 6-4 guard averaged 7.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game during his career at McCook.
Mehmet Batug Gür is an incoming freshman from Turkey and last year played with Samsunspor DSI, which plays in Basketbol Süper Ligi, the highest Turkish level of basketball. One of the youngest players on the team, the 20-year-old Gür netted averages of 2.5 points and 1.6 rebounds in 11 games last season with Samsunspor.
Kent King is a 6-5 guard from Vincennes University, a junior college in Vincennes, Indiana. A Washington, D.C., native, King posted 8.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore last season.
His twin brother,
Kris King, is also joining the Silverswords from Vincennes, and averaged 11.2 points per outing last year. Together, the Kings helped the Trailblazers amass a 60-10 record during their two years there and berths in the NJCAA National Tournament.
Jackson Last comes to Chaminade from Division I Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. In 63 career games with the Colonials, the 6-5 guard posted 5.9 points and 3.8 rebound averages during his two-year career there. Prior to RMU, Last was at Salt Lake Community College in his native Utah where the Bruins were one of the top junior college programs in the country. SLCC was a combined 55-7 mark during his time there from 2020 to 2022, averaging 8.2 points, 4.6 and 1.8 assists in 60 career games.
Fletcher MacDonald is a transfer from Lubbock Christian University where he attended the past two seasons. The 6-8 forward from Wollongong, Australia, helped the Chaparrals to a 23-11 mark during the 2023-24 season and was a key member off the bench. LCU advanced to a pair of NCAA South Central Regional while he was there.
"We are excited about this year's recruiting class," said Bovaird, who is entering his 14th year as head coach. "I truly believe this is the best recruiting class we've ever had in a long time. This year's class will be able to play the style of basketball we want to play. Silversword basketball will be fun to watch this year!"
The 'Swords are tentatively scheduled to open their season in their annual PacWest/GNAC Challenge, teaming with Hawai'i Pacific University against Alaska foes, Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Fairbanks, in the second weekend of November.
