HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team opened 2024 competition Tuesday with a five-set exhibition win over Brock University of Ontario, Canada, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 15-12.
All-Pacific West Conference middle blocker
Lizanyela Lopez (Lima, Peru/Trinity Valley CC/Saco Oliveros HS) paced the Silverswords with 13 kills and three blocks. The 'Swords also got 10 kills each from
Mahala Ka'apuni (Hilo, Hawai'i/Alaska Anchorage/Hilo HS) and newcomers
Anna Stucchi (Roncello, Italy/Santa Clara University/I.I.S. Ezio Vanoni HS), a transfer from Santa Clara University, and freshman
Erica Roberts (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani), the latter adding three total blocks.
Another transfer,
Letizia Cammillucci (Padova, Italy/San Jose State/Liceo Amedeo di Savoia Duca D'asosta HS) added nine kills, 18 digs and three service aces.
Nanna Inoue (Kula, Maui, Hawai'i/Tyler JC/King Kekaulike HS) also added three aces.
Grace Talpash (Temecula, Calif./University of Oklahoma/Great Oak HS) had a team-high 28 assists while
Leilani Ama (Spokane, Wash./Mt. Spokane), coming off an All-American-type season as a freshman, added 22 more.
Playing under the new double-libero rule, sophomore
Kyra Pagud (Honolulu/Moanalua) and freshman
Sina Bauer (Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany/Maximillian-von-Montgelas Gymnasium Vilsbiburg) combined for 10 digs on the evening.
Chaminade hit .237 with 10 aces and seven total team blocks.
Smily Foest led the Badgers with a match-high 16 kills.
The Silverswords, who are ranked No. 12 in the AVCA Division II Preseason Top 25 Poll, open regular season action Thursday in the Hawai'i-Alaska Challenge. The 'Swords face the University of Alaska Anchorage at noon followed by a 6 p.m. tilt against the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
