LONG BEACH, Calif. – Chaminade University guard
Nathan Medina (Long Beach, Calif./Biola University/Valley Christian HS) on Monday was named the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The senior transfer from Biola averaged 17.0 points in his three games last week at the Southwest Maui Invitational. After a 15-point outing in the Silverswords' first game of the tournament against Washington State, Medina torched the Texas Longhorns for 30 points, hitting eight 3-pointers, tied for the fifth highest in tournament history. It was the most points by a 'Sword in a Southwest Maui Invitational game since Christophe Varidel's 42 against Baylor in 2013.
Medina concluded the tournament with six points and four assists against Boise State.
Medina leads Chaminade in scoring at an 18.2 points per game clip and is the PacWest leader in 3-pointers per game at 3.3.
Westmont's Aidan Mandel was named the conference defender of the week while the Warriors were the team of the week.
