LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's basketball team on Monday was named the Pacific West Conference Team of the Week.
The Silverswords (14-9, 8-8 PacWest) won both their contests last week, defeating Dominican on Thursday despite a last change of venue to the Hawai'i Pacific University's Shark Tank.
But what might be their most important win of the season came Saturday when, despite injuries which depleted their roster to just seven, pulled off an upset of Academy of Art, a team that has had their number recently, and, at the time, was the PacWest's second-place team.
All five 'Swords starters played over 31 minutes with four hitting the double-digit scoring column to break their four-game losing streak in the series.
More importantly, the victory kept them in position for a PacWest Tournament berth, which begins in a month.
Westmont's Adrian McIntyre was named the conference player of the week while defender of the week was the Point Loma team.
The Silverswords will wrap up the home portion of their schedule beginning this Saturday when they host PacWest newcomer Jessup University at McCabe Gymnasium with tipoff at 2 p.m. Senior Night will be on Monday, Feb. 10 against Fresno Pacific.
