HONOLULU – Chaminade University honored its student-athletes Saturday evening at the 15th Annual Athletics Awards Ceremony held on the university campus.
All 12 intercollegiate programs recognized their selections for Most Outstanding, Most Inspirational and Scholar-Athlete along with the 43 departing senior student-athletes.
In the three major individual awards,
Peter Jan Ramos was named the Male Athlete of the Year, becoming the first cross country runner since 2014 to earn the honor. Female Athlete of the Year was
Taryn Fujioka, marking the second straight year the award went to a member of the softball team. The Silversword Award, which goes to a student-athlete who exemplifies teamwork, sportsmanship and community service, went to
Grace Talpash from women's volleyball.
The Ho'omau Comeback Student-Athletes of the Year, which recognizes a male and female student-athlete who has overcome adversity to excel on the playing surface, went to
Ruben Aguiniga from men's soccer and
Brynn Shimabukuro from women's soccer.
In the highly coveted Team GPA Awards, women's basketball earned the Large Roster award (11 or more participants) with a 3.76 GPA while the Small Roster award (10 or less) went to men's cross country with a 3.59.
