HONOLULU – The 2024-25 season for the Chaminade University men's basketball team experienced a mixed bag throughout the campaign.
On one hand, the Silverswords got their first winning season in five years, tallying a 16-11 mark.
But on the other hand, their 10-10 record in the Pacific West Conference was not good enough to qualify them for the conference championship tournament, finishing just one game behind the top six.
Still, there was enough to show that the 'Swords are ready to return to their place among the PacWest elites.
After finishing 2023-24 as a middle-of-the-pack scoring squad, Chaminade led the PacWest in scoring at an 82.9 per game clip, the only team in the conference to eclipse the 80-point average barrier.
Transfer
Jackson Last (Hurricane, Utah/Robert Morris University/Hurricane HS) was everything the team thought they were getting, finishing as their top scorer at 14.1 points per game. Fellow transfer
Amound Anderson (Los Angeles, Calif./Fullerton College/Leuzinger HS) was the 'Swords' No. 2 scorer at 13.4 pp as a valuable bench scorer.
Jamir Thomas (Berkeley, Calif./City College of San Francisco/Berkeley HS) rebounded after an injury cost him a majority the final two months of the 2023-24 season by posting 13.0 points this season including leading the PacWest in long-range shooting at 3.1 made 3-pointers per game. Fellow returnee
Kameron Ng (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Univ. of Hawai'i Hilo/Saint Francis HS) started 24-of-26 games at the point and led the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.0.
The 'Swords also got big contributions from twins
Kent King (Washington, D.C./Vincennes University/Fork Union Military Academy) and
Kris King (Washington, D.C./Vincennes University/Fork Union Military Academy). The former averaged 12.5 points while the latter at 11.0.
Also putting together a solid season was guard
Roland Banks II (Bakersfield, Calif./Fullerton College/Cathedral HS) who finished just 0.4 points away from averaging double-digits in the scoring ledger but did dish out 76 assists and pulled down 4.7 rebounds per outing.
Fletcher MacDonald (Wollongong, Australia/Lubbock Christian Univ./Newington College HS) was the 'Swords' top rebounder at 5.5 per game and also blocked 30 shots.
