Men’s Golf Finishes 5th at PWCC, Stopp at 3rd

KOHLER, Wis. – The Chaminade University men's golf team concluded their season on Wednesday with a fifth place overall finish at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship at the Whistling Straits Golf Course.
 
With the Division II championship moving back to the par-72, 6,709-yard Irish Course, the Silverswords, like the rest of the field, struggled with a final round 331 for a total of 946.
 
Texas A&M International was crowned the PWCC champions with a 924, seven shots better than runner-up Fayetteville State. Chaminade was the defending national champions.
 
Ky Stopp (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) shot a 9-over-par 81 in the final round to finish in a three-way tie for third overall at 11-over 227. The sophomore was nine shots behind D-II medalist Micah Stangeby of Kentucky State, who carded an 80 in the final round. Texas A&M International's Elvis Steen was the runner-up at 4-over-par. Just four golfers in the field shot in the 70s in the third round at the Irish Course with TAMIU's Noah Campbell's 76 being the lowest individual score of the round.
 
Ethan Alexander (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep) finished at 238 after carding an 85 in the final 18 holes.
 
Jack Yeager (San Clemente, Calif./JSerra Catholic) wrapped up his three-day week with an 84, totaling 241.
 
A.J. Dahlk (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) shot an 82 in the final round to complete the tournament at 246 while Blake Buonopane (Rowley, Mass./St. John's Prep) had an 84 and finished at 247.

In the other PWCC championships, Arkansas Pine Bluff took both the Division I team and individual titles with Jose Berenguel capturing medalist honors. Likewise, North Carolina A&T won the women's national title and medalist honors with Ekaterina Prokhhorova. In the individual categories (golfers without a team at the championship), Delaware had both men's and women's winners with Egor Zubov and Hyunji Kim, respectively.
