AIEA, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's golf team shot a 1-over-par 289 to grab the first round lead in Saturday's opener of the Hawai'i Tri-Match at the par-72 Pearl at Kalauao course.
The Silverswords, competing against their fellow local Division II counterparts, hold a two-shot lead over host Hawai'i Pacific University and five over the University of Hawai'i Hilo.
Dale Swartwood (San Diego/Clairemont) recorded seven birdies against just one over-par hole and is the tournament's first-round leader with a 6-under 66. Both the freshman's total and under-par scores are single-round school records, besting teammate
Ethan Alexander's (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep) previous mark of 5-under and 67 set at the Hot Dirt Shootout in Arizona in March 2025.
Swartwood played bogey-free in the first 14 holes before shooting a 5 on the par-4 15th before recovering with his final birdie of the day on No. 17.
Meanwhile Alexander is third overall at 2-under 70, aided by an eagle on his final hole on the par-4 18th, which allowed Chaminade to take the first-round lead.
Chance Wilson (Princeville, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Enlightium Academy) shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for seventh, followed by
Marty Lundberg (Sacramento, Calif./Rio Americano) at 7-over 79 and
Riley Born (Las Vegas/Odyssey) at 9-over 81.
The remainder of the 'Swords' roster are playing as individuals (non-countering scores) with
Brock Wright (Gilbert, Ariz./Perry) at 80,
Tanner Capik (Los Angeles/Beverly Hills) at 83,
Gabe Torngren (Honolulu/Kaiser) at 84 and
A.J. Dahlk (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) at 89.
The second and final round of the Tri-Match is Sunday with the first tee times scheduled for 7:30 a.m.
