HONOLULU – Chaminade University women's volleyball Associate Head Coach Kolby Kanetake has stepped down to take an assistant coaching position just down Waialae Avenue at neighboring Division I University of Hawai'i.

Kanetake was with the Silverswords for the past six seasons including the past three as associate head coach. He helped turn Chaminade into one of the top volleyball powers in the Division II ranks with three Pacific West Conference titles and four NCAA West Regional appearances.

He has been lauded as one of the American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) top assistants, recognized as a 2021-22 Thirty Under 30 Award (30 coaches under the age of 30 who are considered rising stars nationally) and the AVCA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year in 2024-25.

Since Kanetake's elevation as the top assistant to head coach Kahala Kabalis Hoke in the fall of 2021, the 'Swords have compiled a 127-37 overall record (77.4 winning percentage) including an astonishing 82-10 league mark (89.1 percent) during that span. It includes four seasons of 26 or more wins while Chaminade put together the first undefeated PacWest slate (20-0) in 2024, the conference's first in seven years.

The Silverswords were also a regular in the D-II national rankings which included a stretch of 29 straight weeks in the AVCA poll from 2023 to 2025.

A search for a replacement is currently underway.
