SEASIDE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team concluded their non-conference trip to Northern California Thursday with a 3-1 defeat to Cal State Monterey Bay at Cardindale Stadium.
The Silverswords got their first goal of the season and had a brief lead before the Otters rallied in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Milan Cordone (Las Vegas/University of Northern Iowa/Coronado HS) got the game's first goal in the 43rd minute on an assist from
Kenna Kiefer (Vail, Ariz./Cienega). It was Cordone's sixth career goal, her previous five while at North Dakota State, and Kiefer's third career assist.
However, the Otters netted three unanswered goals in the final 45 minutes with the tying score 43 seconds into the second half then the winning shot in the 71st minute to pull out the win.
Cordone had a team-high four shots, two on-goal while
Scottie Crooks (Vancouver, Wash./Western Oregon University/Skyview HS) fired a pair at the net.
Marianna Carpenter (Castle Rock, Colo./University of North Dakota/Castle View HS),
Emerson Peller (Broomfield, Colo./University of North Dakota/Broomfield HS),
Olivia Leonard (Taylorsville, Utah/Utah Tech University/Skyline HS) and Kiefer each attempted single shots, part of 10 total tries at the net by CUH.
Sydney Bakritzes (Edina, Minn./University of North Dakota/Edina HS) made five saves for the 'Swords.
CSU Monterey Bay (2-0-1) attempted 18 shots while Willow Baltazar had three saves.
The Silverswords return to O'ahu next Wednesday against Hawai'i Pacific University, the first of the annual two non-conference meetings against their local Pacific West Conference foes. Kickoff at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium at 6 p.m.
