SEASIDE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team opened their two-game Northern California road trip Tuesday with a 1-nil defeat to San Francisco State at the Cal State Monterey Bay campus.
 
Despite the loss which dropped them to 0-4, the Silverswords took a season-high 13 shots, eight of which were on-goal in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
 
Olivia Leonard (Taylorsville, Utah/Utah Tech University/Skyline HS), Kenna Kiefer (Vail, Ariz./Cienega) and Emerson Peller (Broomfield, Colo./University of North Dakota/Broomfield HS) both attempted a game-high three shots. All three of Leonard's kicks were on target while two of Peller's shots and one by Kiefer needed to be saved.
 
Mackenzie Jamison (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley) and Cyera Perry (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) both had shots that were snared by SFSU keeper Peyton Graham. Shannon Healy (Gilbert, Ariz./Campo Verde) had CUH's other shot towards the net which was off target.
 
Sydney Bakritzes (Edina, Minn./University of North Dakota/Edina HS) logged one save while the team prevented one shot from entering the net.
 
Monique Alvarez had the game's lone score, coming in the 17th minute. Graham accounted for all eight saves for the Gators (1-1-1).
 
The Silverswords will stay in Seaside to face host Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday.
