Lahaina, HI- The Swords came out today ready to play against the University of Maryland in their first game in the 2009 Maui Invitational. CUH came out and jumped on the Terrapins early and kept the game close heading into halftime, they trailed by only 10 points. Maryland shot 47% from the floor for the entire game and that shooting percentage proved to be the major factor in today's loss. The Silverswords lost 79 to 51.
Junior Shane Hanson scored a team high 14 points, going 4-7 from three point range, while junior point guard, Steven Bennett added 12 points for Chaminade. Hanson went 5-14 overall and Hanson contributed with 7 boards. Senior Cartier Carter also grabbed 7 boards for CUH. The Swords shot the ball well from the charity line, shooting nearly 42%.
Chaminade lost the rebounding battle 46 to 34; however they shot well from behind the arch, shooting 35% percent compared to Maryland's 30%.
Maryland junior forward, Sean Mosley, led the way with 19 points.
With the loss, the Silverswords fall to 0-1 overall, while the Terrapins improve to 3-0 overall. The next game for CUH is against the Commodores of the University of Vanderbilt . First tip is set for 8:30AM HST on November 22nd at the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui.
