Lahaina, HI- The Swords came out and took on 24th ranked University of Vanderbilt in the second of three games in the 2009 Maui Invitational today, they fell by a score of 68 to 41. Like yesterday, CUH trailed by a small margin heading into halftime. The score at the break was Chaminade 26 and Vanderbilt 32. Vanderbilt shot 43%, compared to the Swords 24%. In the end, the Swords never gave up despite losing to the Commordores.
Junior Shane Hanson scored 9 points and grabbed 10 boards for the Swords. Junior Cartier Carter, also added 9 points and junior Chandler Pearson scored 9 points and picked up 8 boards of his own.
Chaminade lost the rebounding battle 51 to 39; however they shot 50% as a team from the free throw line, making 6 of 12 shots taken. Offensive rebounds were nearly even at 17 for CUH and 18 for Vanderbilt.
The Commodores freshman guard, John Jenkins, led the way with 14 points and 4 boards. Jenkins went 4 for 6 from the 3 point line in just 23 minutes of playing time.
With the loss, the Silverswords fall to 0-2 overall, while Vanderbilt improves to 3-1 overall. Chaminade will conclude this year's Maui Invitational tournament in a game with the University of Colorado tomorrow morning. Tipoff is set for 9:30AM at the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui.
