Honolulu, HI- The Swords won a Pac West Conference battle with BYU-Hawaii this evening in five sets (19-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23, 15-13) in front of a raucous crowd in McCabe Gym.
Senior night was a good one for the two Silversword seniors. The last home match for Courtney Lorusso (Los Angeles, CA/Glendora) was one of her best, notching 20 kills in the win. Chauntelle Maduli (Honolulu, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) led the Swords defensively with 27 digs in her last match in McCabe Gym.
Freshman Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) had a double-double for CUH with 16 kills and 11 digs. Fellow freshman Kylee Pedro (Honolulu, HI/Mid-Pacific) added 12 kills in victory for the Swords.
Junior setter Tanya Alvino (Brentwood, CA/Liberty) was steady throughout the match contributing 51 assists and 19 digs for CUH.
The Swords won the dig battle 98-84. Chaminade also won the battle of hitting percentage .137 to .117.
The Seasiders were led by Hannah Wilkinson with 13 kills and 7 total blocks.
With the win, Chaminade improves to 5-20. BYU-Hawaii moves to 13-13. The Swords are back in action on Nov. 14th in their last match of the season against HPU. First serve is set for 7:00 PM HT at St. Andrew's Priory.
