Honolulu, HI- Coming off the Maui Invitational, the Swords faced a fired up La Verne team tonight in McCabe Gym.
The first half was hotly contested, but the Swords went to the break up 35-24. La Verne responded early in the second half and knotted the score at 46-46 midway through the second half. Key baskets by the Swords down the stretch opened the game up to a double-digit lead.
The Leopards did not quit, as Austin Napolitano managed to score inside to keep the game within striking distance. Napolitano finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
Matt Cousins finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds in the win, while Steven Bennett and Cartier Carter added 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Swords made free throws down the stretch put the game away and preserved the 71-66 win.
Chaminade moves to 1-3 on the year with the win. LaVerne falls to 1-3. The Swords are back in action vs. Hawaii on December 9th at the Stan Sheriff Center. Game time is set for 7:05 PM HT.
