CUH MBB: Swords Claim Hawaii Tournament Championship, Down BYU-Hawaii 87-76

Diarra leads Chaminade with 19 points and 14 rebounds

HONOLULU, HI- Chaminade defeated BYU-Hawaii 87-76 this evening in the championship game of the 2010 Hawaii Tournament. Chaminade has now won the tournament in both 2009 and 2010. 
 
The Swords got out to a big lead early and never looked back, taking a 50-36 lead into the locker room at halftime. The lead stayed at double-figures nearly the entire game. Junior center Mamadou Diarra was impressive in the win, notching a double-double, scoring 19 points to go along with 14 rebounds and 3 blocks.   
 
Shane Hanson
Senior Shane Hanson (Canyon Lake, CA/Temescal Canyon) matched Diarra, scoring 19 points, while corralling 9 rebounds of his own and knocking down six threes in the win. Senior point guard Steven Bennett (Los Angeles, CA/Dorsey) added 15 points, 7 assists and 3 rebounds. 
 
Sophomore guard Waly Coulibaly (Bamako, Mali/Patterson Prep) was impressive from three knocking down four threes, tallying 12 points on the night. CUH shot lights out from three, knocking down 12 three's at 55% on the game. 
 
De'Andre Haskins (Long Beach, CA/Jordan) tallied 9 points and Chris Curtis (Tustin, CA/Tustin) led the Chaminade defensive effort. 
 
CUH shot 55% from the floor on the evening. Chaminade dominated the glass 39-22.    
 
BYU-Hawaii was led by junior Jet Chang with 19 points in defeat.
 
BYU-Hawaii falls to 4-3 on the year with the loss. The Swords improve to 7-4 on the year and claim the 2010 Hawaii Tournament Championship. UH-Hilo defeated HPU 79-78 in overtime in the consolation game.
