St. George, UT– The Lady Swords took on the Red Storm of Dixie State today and fell by a score of 16 to 7 and 11 to 0. CUH gave up 8 runs in the first inning in both games, the Lady Swords couldn't recover from being down 8 runs as the Red Storm held off Chaminade's any and all attempts at a comeback.
Game # 1
Chaminade lost the first game by way of the mercy rule, 16 runs to 3. Dixie State scored 8 runs in the bottom of the first inning 4 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning and 4 more runs in bottom of the 5th inning. However, CUH managed to score 7 runs of their own, thanks in a large part to a rally in the top of the 3rd inning.
Kelly Korras is charged with the loss, she pitched 4 innings. She gave up 3 hits, 3 earned runs on the first 8 batters faced. She falls to 5-7 on the year.
Game # 2:
CUH fell behind early and never recovered, heading into only their second at bat of the game; they trailed 8 runs to 0. The Red Storm needed only 4 ½ innings to win this game, 11 runs to 0. CUH had 3 hits to Dixie's 7 hits in the 4 ½ inning PACWEST match up.
Chelsi Walls pitched 1 inning, she faced 12 batters; she gave up 6 hits and 4 earned runs.
The Lady Swords continue their mainland for the next 10 games. Their next opponent is again Dixie State University in St. George, UT March 23rd. First pitch is set for12:00PM MDT, after the four game sweep; CUH's record is now 13-17 overall and the Red Storm of Dixie State University improve their record to 13-8 overall.
