Waipahu, HI – Cold and rainy conditions tonight at Central Oahu Regional Park (CORP) was the site of the Pacific West opener for the 2010 Lady Swords of Chaminade University. CUH took the field against the Vulcans of University of Hawaii @ Hilo; CUH lost the first game 6r runs to 4 and fell 4 to 1 the second game.
New York Yankee Hall of Famer, Babe Ruth, once said, “I swing big, with everything I've got. I hit big or I miss big. The Lady Swords fought hard throughout the night against the Vulcans, however, clutch hitting and superb pitching was the difference in both games.
Game # 1: Box Score
Kelly Korras stared on the mound for Chaminade and for the most part pitched a good game. She faced 34 batters, struck out 2, walked 4, she gave up 6 runs on 6 hits.
Brandi Sasaki started things off for the Lady Swords with a double to left field in the bottom of the 1st inning. Kristine (Chico) Mihara, was the next batter and she singled to left field scoring two CUH players, she scored Kori Berinobis from second base and Brandi Sasaki from first base. Mihara's single gave Chaminade the 2 run advantage heading into the top of the 2nd inning.
However, in the top of the 2nd inning, UH-Hilo's bats started to get hot. They scored 4 runs on 2 hits, heading into the bottom of the 2nd Chaminade trailed 4 to 1. Despite being down 3 runs, CUH did not give up and ended up scoring 3 more runs on clutch at bats throughout the game. However, the visiting Vulcans of UH-Hilo ended up scoring 2 more runs in the first game and ended up winning 6 to 4.

Game # 2: Box Score
Kasy'e Lalau started the second game tonight. She faced 35 batters, struck out 2, walked 2, she gave up 4 runs on 9 hits.
UH- Hilo wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, they scored two of their four runs in the top of the 1st inning. Thanks in large part to a pair of clutch singles and two stolen bases. CUH was unable to counter in the bottom of the 1st inning and at the end of 1, the score Vulcans 2 Lady Swords 0.
No more runs on either side were scored until the bottom of the 4th inning, when CUH scored 1 run. Chaminade scored their lone run on a clutch single to left field courtesy of Alyssa Dumlao.
Heading into the Top of the 6th inning the score was to 2 to 1 in favor of theVulcans, however, that quickly changed as UH-Hilo erupted for 2 more runs, thanks in large part to pair of singles from the first two batters. The Vulcans were able to move those batters around the bases for the final two runs of the game.
UH-Hilo played flawless defense during the last two at bats for CUH, Chaminade was only able to get one hit. The Lady Swords one hit was a hard hit ground ball to the second base men, courtesy of Skye Virtudes.

The Lady Swords are back in action tomorrow afternoon at CORP, when they once again to take UH-Hilo in a doubled header match up. First pitch is set for 12:00PM HST, with the losses today, CUH falls to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the PacWest Conference. While UH Hilo, improves their record to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in the PacWest Conference.
