Honolulu, HI – The Lady Swords took on the nationally ranked HPU Sea Warriors today and fell 10 to 4 in game 1 and 21 to 2 in game 2. Currently in the West Region the Sea Warriors are #1.
Game # 1
Chaminade came out strong and determined to play well. They posted 4 quick runs in the bottom of the second. However, the nationally ranked Sea Warriors matched those 4 runs in their next at bat. In the top of the 5th inning they scored 6 more runs and led 10 runs to 4.
CUH could not score anymore runs and fell 10 runs to 0.
Kelly Korras started the game on the mound for CUH Korras pitched 4 innings; she gave up 5 hits and 4 of the 9 earned runs. Kasy'e Lalau came in relief and she pitched the last three innings. She gave up 5 of 9 earned runs on 6 hits.
Kasy'e Lalau is charged with the loss, she falls to 6-19 on the year.
Game # 2:
Chaminade got behind early in this game and couldn't recover. Hawaii Pacific pounded the Silverswords for 21 runs, CUH were only able to post 2 runs and fell by a score of 21 to 2.
The Sea Warriors bats were “on fire” .. The pitching didn't have an answer for the solid bats of HPU, in fact Hawaii Pacific went 21 for 36, for you non softball folk, that's a batting average of 580. In other words, almost 60% of the time HPU stepped up to bat they were getting a hit.
Kasy'e Lalau was the starting pitcher; she pitched just 3 innings and got charged with the loss. She gave up 8 hits on 20 batters faced.
She falls to 6 -20 on the year.
The Lady Swords are back in action on April 15th, 2010 when they square off against the Seasiders of Brigham Young University @ Hawaii. This game will be played in Laie, Hawaii. With the sweep today the Lady Swords fall to record is now 14-30 overall and Hawaii Pacific University improves to 35-4.
