CUH MBB: Chaminade Survives Dominican, 48-43

Cooks and Haskins lead with 12 points each in win

HONOLULU, HI- The Swords made it three consecutive wins this evening, defeating the Penguins of Dominican 48-43 in Pac West Conference action. Chaminade and Dominican struggled to score in the opening twenty minutes and DUC was up 15-14 at intermission.
 
The second half saw much more scoring as the tempo of the game picked up. The Swords came up with some huge plays late in the ball game, including a late offensive rebound and put back to help secure the victory. 
 
CUH guard Dominique Cooks (Wollongong, AUS/ Holy Spirit College) had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assists in forty minutes of action, while junior Matt Cousins (Santa Rosa, CA/Cardinal Newman) added 9 points and 9 rebounds to the effort. Junior De'Andre Haskins (Long Beach, CA/Jordan) had 12 points, including some crucial makes late to help preserve the win. A late layup finish by junior Chris Curtis (Tustin, CA/Tustin) with under a minute remaining also proved critical in Chaminade pulling out the victory
 
Junior center Mamadou Diarra added 12 rebounds, 4 points and 2 blocks in the victory. Steven Bennett (Los Angeles, CA/Dorsey) had 9 points, 2 steals and 2 rebounds for CUH.   
 
The Swords out-rebounded Dominican 38-32 and held the Penguins to 33% shooting.   
 
Dominican was led by Adam Chavis with 13 points on 5-11 shooting in the defeat. 
 
Chaminade moves to 10-5 with the win, 3-0 in the Pac West. DUC goes to 0-12, (0-2 in the Pac West) with the defeat. The Swords are back in action at UH Hilo (currently 11-3) on January 22nd.
