CUH MSOC: Chaminade and UH-Hilo Draw 1-1 in 2OT

Dudley scores in 49th minute for Swords

HILO, HI- Chaminade Men's Soccer took on UH-Hilo this afternoon at the UHH Soccer Field and after 110 minutes of play left the field with a 1-1 draw.

The first half of this Pac West Conference match saw ten total shots, but no one scored and the match went to the half knotted at 0.

The second forty-five minutes saw some competitive inter-island action.  Chaminade sophomore Nick Dudley (Honolulu, HI/St. Louis) put a header in off an assist from sophomore midfielder Jose Carranza (Woodland Hills, CA/ Canoga Park) to go up 1-0 in the 49th minute of action. Less than a minute later a penalty kick opportunity by UH-Hilo was saved by Chaminade goalie Jose Miguel Pena (Santiago, Chile/St. George's) to hold the one goal Chaminade advantage.  The Vulcans continued to press offensively and scored on a Lane Lorenzo break-away in the 73rd minute to tie the match at 1-1.

After two overtimes of back and forth action, neither team could find the game-winner and the match ended at 1-1.  The match marks the second draw between the Swords and the Vulcans as the two teams played to a 0-0 draw on September 2nd on St. Louis Field.

Freshman goalkeeper Jose Miguel Pena (Santiago, Chile/St. George's) continues his solid inaugural campaign in goal for Chaminade, stopping 11 shots in the match.  CUH freshman Kyle Withoft (Las Vegas, NV/Arbor View) took four shots (two on goal) for the Swords.

Coach Higgins observed some play he liked: “The match could've gone either way.  WE definitely had possession and had some nice combination play…there was some pretty soccer.  We created opportunities and they did too.”

Raydan Bala led the way for the Vulcans with 6 shots on the match.  UH-Hilo outshot CUH 18-14.

With the draw, Chaminade moves to 0-13-2, 0-9-1 and UH-Hilo moves to 2-10-2, 1-7-1.  The Swords are back in action October 29th at Hawaii Pacific at 3:00 PM HT.
